Cosy Christmas day style tips

December 04, 2017
Perhaps you're hosting Christmas day or maybe you’re travelling and staying with loved ones. Regardless of where you are, Christmas Day is an opportunity to take some time out from everyday life and relax with your nearest and dearest. To make your Christmas the cosiest one yet, we’ve put together some Christmas day style tips.

Overindulging on turkey and mince pies and the constant picking at the chocolates is easily done at Christmas. Let's be honest, it’s one of the things we look forward to most as it’s the only day out of the year you don’t think about the waistline! [Diet starts in January]  Keeping your style comfy and relaxed is key for Christmas day.

You want loose fitting and comfortable loungewear. Festive clothing is a fun way of making effort but keeping it comfy. An oversized Christmas jumper is my favourite, and if you want to go a step further in the festivities, you can get matching jumpers for you and the family, you’ll be super comfy and makes great pictures for the family album.

Christmas jumper not your thing? No problem, wearing red is the ultimate colour for this time of year. A red smock dress with tights or a red top with your favourite jeans or leggings will instantly lift spirits and get you in the cosy Christmas mood. Try adding a touch of sparkle with some festive earrings or a necklace, sometimes it's the little details which make all the difference. Chunky knit socks or fluffy slippers are the ultimate MUST HAVE for keeping cosy. Whether you are in the comfort of your own home or visiting family, you can pick up some cheap slippers for women and they also make a great stocking filler, who doesn’t like slippers?!

My favourite part of the day is the post-Christmas dinner walk! It’s a tradition of ours when we spend Christmas with my parents to take the dogs and go for a well-earned walk to get some fresh air. Layer up against the cold with your warmest coat, gloves and scarf. You basically want to feel like you've stepped out in your duvet! Ugg boots or warm sheepskin boots are the best for Christmas day walks, especially if you are lucky enough to see some snow (fingers crossed for a white Christmas!). Grab your favourite takeaway mug and take a hot chocolate on the journey!

There are lots of ways to add some extra cosy vibes to your home for Christmas Day. Nothing beats the crackle of an open fire but if you’re without this added luxury, fairy lights and candles are a simple way to create a relaxing environment. Opt for a Christmas scent like pine or cinnamon for the ultimate festive feel.

Why not spruce up the living furniture too and pick up some cheap festive cushions and snuggly blankets to cosy up and watch Christmas movies. There are so many classics on over Christmas - Home Alone and Love Actually wins every year for us. Once the kids are in bed and the evening is drawing in, cosy up with some winter acoustic music or Christmas songs, there are lots of good playlists on Spotify to choose from. This is usually when we crack open the Baileys and the games come out. Our top favourites are ‘Who am I’, ‘charades’ and ‘trivia pursuit’.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas Day!
