Electric Cinema and Electric Diner - An alternative cinema experience

January 26, 2016

If you want an alternative cinema experience then Electric Cinemas is a MUST TRY! When booking tickets you have a choice between booking an armchair or sofa, I went in a group of 6 friends and we opted for single armchairs. Believe me when I say the most comfy cinema experience ever. So comfy that I did actually fall asleep and miss part of the film (oops!). There’s ample leg room, a little side table, foot stool and a blanket in case you get cold.

Upon arrival to the electric cinema, you are greeted with a retro ‘pick n mix’ selection displayed on an old cart. The main room also has a bar with food. The cinema screen itself is no IMAX and a little on the small side but I still recommend as it’s a great experience.

Before we sat down for our film, we ate next door at the Electric Diner. It’s quick service, unfussy food and a fun and relaxed environment. The Diner has a very old American vibe with leather booth style seating, bar stool seating, funky décor and cool music. I opted for the shredded BBQ pork roll and sweet potato fries, it didn’t disappoint.

Rated: If 5 were insanely awesome we'd give this place a huge 4
Suitable for: Group or date
Best bits: The pick n mix and the comfiness of the chairs
Price: tickets start from £15.50 pp. The meal was around £30 pp with drinks. Then there's the Pic n' Mix and any drinks from the bar in the cinema - it can add up quickly!
Location: Portobello or Shoreditch (I visited the Portobello branch)
