A personal wedding website

February 08, 2014
Have you ever considered building a website with all your wedding details under one roof? A personal website that's password protected and only your guests can view and is instantly accessible? And the best thing is you don't even have to be a website designer or tech savvy because the templates are already made for you!

To be honest, I wasn't sold on the idea at first, I thought it was a cheap alternative to sending out 'save the dates' and I felt it would ruin the element of surprise for your guests. Until I received details for my friends wedding via their website. Their wedding is in France this May so they needed a way to inform all their guests on the logistics. A wedding website was a great solution for this. On their site we found details on the chateau we needed to stay at, the best mode of transport, how and when to pay deposits, and some research on nearby tourist attractions. After all, if you're going abroad for a wedding, you need to make the most of it!  As a guest I found it extremely useful. They used a site called http://www.gettingmarried.co.uk

I didn't want to use the same so I did a little research and found a website called www.mywedding.com. It's very simple to use as the templates are already designed for you, all you need to do is picked which one suites your theme the most. (This could take a while as there are quite a few to pick from). I went for a neutral style and kept it simple.

The great thing about creating your own website is you can choose how much or how little details you want to include for guests. Literally the sky is your limit! You can get your guests to RSVP, pick their food orders, request music, register gifts.....the list is endless. I decided against all this and kept details to a minimum. I didn't want to give away too many clues about our wedding and wanted to have an element of surprise for our guests. The main reason for creating this website was so I could do all the planning for my guests. I wanted to make sure everyone knows in advance where they are going, how they get there, and where to stay. The rest still remains a mystery to them.

Mywedding.com is more than just a website builder, it's a centralised hub for all your research and planning. If I'm honest, I'm a little bit old skool when it comes to researching and rely solely on a notepad and pen so haven't really explored this section in great detail. It has a great little checklist section, which has actually thought of everything so it's great to work down the list and tick of like a 'to do' list. You can also add appointments in the calendar and track your budget. The budget is only in dollars though so no use to me really. But overall a great site which makes wedding planning easier to manage.
